What You Can Do with Photoshop cs4 extended

In the early days of Photoshop (that is, the 1990s), Photoshop was primarily a photo editing tool. Photoshop has developed and progressed into something much more. Photoshop 6 introduced cleaner text for printing. Photoshop 7 introduced some very robust painting tools. As we’ll see later in this chapter, the last few versions of Photoshop have allowed you to create, import, and manipulate 3D objects, create animation, edit video, organize your photo library, and create media for cell phones.

In this blog, you’ll see how to work with objects in Photoshop in such a way that you can always make changes later.

One of the great aspects of Photoshop that we will be constantly looking at in this blog is the ability to use layers.
Layers didn’t exist when Photoshop was first released; all painting, color correction, and effects took place on a single layer. This was just like painting on a canvas. If you messed up, your only choice was to paint over the mistake or start over.
But with the introduction of layers, you could start putting pieces of your work onto separate parts of your image. These separate
parts (layers) can be moved, resized, colored, and otherwise adjusted independently of all other pieces of your work in Photoshop.

shows a faux side view of the layers that comprise this project. Notice that most of the layers do not take up the entire document as the background does. Because these elements are all on separate layers, I can adjust each one without affecting the others. We’ll be talking a great deal about layers as we go along.

What Is Photoshop?

Photoshop is the world’s leading image-editing program. All other imaging programs combined aren’t half as popular or powerful as Photoshop. People use Photoshop in everything from designing posters to designing fashions. They use it to edit pictures of people’s grandkids and of supermodels. They use Photoshop in blockbuster Hollywood movies and in video games. Anything you can do with a photo, you can do in Photoshop. Whether you’re reading this post for entertainment, profit, or both, you’ll be happy to know that using Photoshop is fun, and that Photoshop is going to be around for a very long time.

While they may take a little getting used to, anyone with extensive Photoshop experience can vouch for the usefulness of knowing by heart some of the most commonly used Photoshop shortcuts. Most people find that a quick tapping of the keyboard produces more efficient results for some options than using a mouse and menu. Once you get accustomed to using shortcuts, you’ll wonder why you didn’t use them from the start! Table A.1 details some of the most commonly used (default) shortcuts. Note that all Toolbar and menu shortcuts found in Photoshop CS4 Standard are also found in Photoshop CS4 Extended, while the extra tools found in the Extended edition are not found in the Standard edition (see Table A.2).Table A.3 lists some popular menu command shortcuts.
